Outdoor Cushion Foam That Actually Dries Fast
Stop replacing waterlogged, moldy patio cushions every season. Our weather-resistant Dry Fast reticulated foam drains rain in minutes, resists mold and mildew, and is cut precisely to your exact dimensions — so your outdoor furniture always looks and feels brand new.
Regular Indoor Foam Outdoors Is a Disaster
Standard polyurethane foam — the kind inside most indoor sofas — is made from millions of tiny closed cells. When it gets wet, those cells act like a sponge, absorbing and holding water deep in the foam's core.
A single rainstorm can leave your cushions wet for 2–5 days. Sitting on damp foam compresses it faster, shortening its life. Worse, that trapped moisture creates the perfect environment for mold and mildew — producing that musty smell and eventual structural breakdown.
- ✕Absorbs and holds water for days
- ✕Stays cold and clammy after rain
- ✕Grows mold and mildew inside the core
- ✕Breaks down 3–5x faster when wet
Open-Cell Structure That Water Flows Right Through
Dry Fast foam — also called reticulated foam — is manufactured through a process that removes the cell walls from the foam structure entirely, leaving behind an open, sponge-like skeleton. There is nowhere for water to sit and accumulate.
When rain hits your patio cushion, it passes straight through the foam and drains out the bottom in minutes. The foam surface dries quickly in the open air. No soggy seats. No mold. No mildew.
- Water drains in minutes, not days
- Resists mold and mildew naturally
- UV-stable — handles direct sun exposure
- Maintains shape and support season after season
Dry Fast Reticulated Foam — Built for the Elements
The same open-cell reticulated foam used by professional marine upholsterers and outdoor furniture manufacturers — now available cut to your exact size.
Reticulated (Open-Cell) Structure
Cell walls are removed during manufacturing, creating a skeleton structure that allows water and air to pass freely through the foam.
Water Drains in Minutes, Not Days
Rain flows straight through and drains from the bottom. Your cushion is ready to sit on again in the same afternoon.
Resists Mold and Mildew
No trapped moisture means no environment for mold or mildew to grow. Safe for humid climates, poolside use, and covered storage.
Ideal for Direct Sun and Rain Exposure
UV-stable formulation resists degradation from sunlight. Handles freeze-thaw cycles in northern climates and intense heat in southern ones.

How to Measure for Outdoor Cushion Replacement Foam
Getting your measurements right the first time ensures your new foam fits perfectly. Here is what to do:
Remove the Old Cushion Insert
Unzip or open the cushion cover and pull out the existing foam. If the foam is in good enough shape, lay it flat on a hard surface. This is your most accurate reference point.
Measure Length, Width, and Thickness
With the foam flat on a table, measure from edge to edge in all three dimensions. Use a metal tape measure — fabric tapes can stretch. Write the numbers down immediately.
Account for Cushion Cover Compression
If you want a tight, full cushion, order the foam to match the inside dimensions of the cover exactly. For a slightly firmer feel, you can go 1/4 inch larger in length and width — the foam will compress slightly into the cover.
Choose Your Thickness
Most outdoor seating uses 3–4 inches of foam for comfort and durability. Measure your old foam's thickness or the internal depth of your cushion cover. Our most popular outdoor thickness is 4 inches.
Note Irregular Shapes
If your cushion is T-shaped (like a sectional corner) or L-shaped, measure each "arm" of the shape separately. We offer T-shape and L-shape cuts in our configurator — just enter the individual dimensions.
Enter Exact Measurements in the Configurator
Go to our order page, select Outdoor Dry Fast Foam, pick your shape, and enter your measurements to the nearest 1/4 inch. You'll see the price update instantly before you add to cart.
Pro Tip
If your existing foam has completely disintegrated and you are measuring an empty cushion cover, measure the inside of the cover itself. Order the foam at those dimensions or 1/4 inch larger for a snug, full look.
Outdoor Foam Questions, Answered
What is Dry Fast foam?+
Dry Fast foam is a reticulated (open-cell) polyurethane foam engineered specifically for outdoor and marine use. Unlike standard foam where the cell walls trap water, reticulated foam has had those walls burned away during manufacturing, leaving a skeleton-like structure. Water flows straight through the foam and drains out within minutes. It is the industry standard for patio furniture, boat seating, and any application that will be exposed to rain, splashing, or high humidity.
Will outdoor foam hold up in rain?+
Yes — that is exactly what Dry Fast reticulated foam is designed for. When rain hits your cushion, the water passes through the open-cell structure and drains out from the bottom, leaving the foam effectively dry within minutes. Standard closed-cell indoor foam absorbs and holds water for days, leading to mold and mildew growth. Our Dry Fast outdoor foam resists both mold and mildew, and the material itself is UV-stable so it will not degrade in direct sunlight.
Can I use outdoor foam for a boat?+
Absolutely. Dry Fast reticulated foam is the same material used in marine and boating applications worldwide. It performs equally well on a sailboat helm seat, a pontoon bench, a fishing boat gunnel pad, or a dockside bench. It handles salt water, fresh water, sun, and humidity without breaking down or harboring mold. Simply order the dimensions you need and we will cut it precisely.
How thick should outdoor cushion foam be?+
For most outdoor seating — patio sofas, sectionals, and dining chairs — 4 inches of foam is the sweet spot: thick enough for real comfort, thin enough to fit standard cushion covers. Chaise lounge pads are often done at 3 inches since they are used more reclined. Porch swing cushions can go 3–4 inches. If you are replacing an existing cushion, remove the old foam and measure it directly on a flat surface for the most accurate thickness reading.
Do I need a cover over the foam?+
A cover is optional but recommended for comfort and aesthetics. Dry Fast foam itself is fully functional uncovered and used bare on many boat seats and pool loungers. However, a fabric cover adds comfort, lets you customize the look, and protects the foam surface from physical abrasion over time. Use an outdoor-rated fabric like Sunbrella or another acrylic canvas, which will hold up alongside the foam. Avoid vinyl covers that seal around the foam — they trap moisture and defeat the purpose of the open-cell structure.
